Understanding the Economic Calendar

An economic calendar shows the date and time of key announcements, events, indicators and data releases that provide indications of the health of the U.S. economy and may, therefore, influence financial markets.

The economic calendar that is displayed on EMMA is updated continuously. Events that are scheduled to occur in the future typically include a link to a definition of the event, an explanation of how information about the event might be useful to investors and, where applicable, historical data and a consensus view of future data. Events that have already occurred typically include a link to any data that was released, along with a brief summary of the event. Explanations of any of the events listed on the calendar may be viewed by clicking on the “Event Definitions” button at the top of the page.

EMMA users should be aware that the information included in the economic calendar is provided by Econoday, Inc. and that the MSRB takes no responsibility for independently verifying the accuracy, completeness or timeliness of the information.

Note: It is important to understand that many factors can affect the value of a security. Further information can be found in the MSRB Education Center.
